When does the north end of Lake Rosseau close for winter? This year the clearest answer is four o'clock on Saturday, November 21, at 1146 Highway 141. That is when Pivot Gallery locks up for the season. The gallery's own site says it "will be closed for the winter after November 21st, reopening Spring 2027."
The rest of the village gets there in smaller steps, and some of those steps have already happened. Crossroads Restaurant cut a night from its week in mid-October. Pivot Gallery's closing comes next. After that, the village runs on a short weekly routine. On the November 20–22 weekend, the last of these changes happens on one short piece of Highway 141, alongside the village's best-known holiday shopping event.
Two storefronts, one weekend
Pivot Gallery sits at 1146 Highway 141, Unit 3. It keeps weekend hours, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Its season has been short. The Muskoka Lakes Chamber of Commerce listed the gallery's opening in Rosseau for May 17, 2025, which makes this its second winter closing. Works by Lynda Flanagan and Judi Miller are on its online shop now, so anyone who wanted a piece before spring has until that Saturday afternoon to see the work in person.
A few doors along, at 1150 Highway 141, HillTop Interiors keeps its showroom of furniture, lighting, accessories and materials open all year. Its hours are Monday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and it adds Sunday hours only in July and August. The holiday open house is the one weekend each fall the showroom builds around a celebration. The Chamber's listing for this year calls it a "Holiday Gift Guide for the weekend of November 20, 21 & 22nd, in the Village of Rosseau." It offers 20% off to all guests all weekend and adds a Friday Night Social from 5 to 7 p.m.
The open house is a long-running tradition. HillTop called its 2023 edition, held November 24 to 26, an "annual" Christmas Open House. It ran Friday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the same 20% offer. In 2025 the Chamber calendar listed it again on Friday, November 21. The date moves a little from year to year, but the weekend before late November keeps landing in the same spot. In 2026 it overlaps with Pivot Gallery's last open day.
How the weekend lays out
On Saturday, November 21, the north and south ends of the lake each have something on. That afternoon the Muskoka Lakes Singers give their annual Christmas concert at the Port Carling Community Centre.
| Day | Rosseau village | Port Carling |
|---|---|---|
| Friday, Nov. 20 | HillTop Interiors open house from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., then the Friday Night Social, 5 to 7 p.m. | |
| Saturday, Nov. 21 | HillTop open house continues with 20% off. Pivot Gallery is open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., its last day before winter | Muskoka Lakes Singers Christmas concert, 2 p.m., Port Carling Community Centre |
| Sunday, Nov. 22 | Final day of HillTop's 20% weekend. Pivot Gallery is closed for the season |
The Singers' concert is admission by donation, and all proceeds go to Andy's Hospice House. Pivot Gallery closes at 4 p.m. and the concert starts at 2 p.m., and the two are at opposite ends of the lake. Fitting both into one Saturday means seeing the gallery late in the morning and then heading south after lunch. On Friday, the social is the only evening event on the north-end schedule.
What the village runs on after the 22nd
When the open house wraps up, the north end settles into a short weekly routine. Every item on it is a standing arrangement rather than a one-time event.
- Dinner, Thursday to Sunday. Crossroads Restaurant runs its winter season from October to May, serving Thursday to Sunday from 5 to 9 p.m. It has already made one change this fall. From the September long weekend through October 13 it was open Wednesday to Sunday, so the mid-October switch dropped Wednesdays. It no longer serves lunch. Its FAQ notes that reservations go through OpenTable and that cancellations with less than 24 hours' notice carry a $50-per-person fee.
- Groceries and essentials, daily. The Rosseau General Store, established in 1874, is at 1 Rice Street. Its posted hours read "Open daily — please call," and the store asks customers to phone 705.732.4479 or check its social channels for seasonal hours.
- Wednesday evenings, upstairs at Rosseau Memorial Hall. Scottish country dancing starts at 7 p.m. in the upstairs hall.
- Thursday afternoons, downstairs at the same hall. Stitch & Giggles meets from 1 to 3 p.m.
- First Wednesday of the month, early. The Oldtimers Coffee Club meets from 7 to 11 a.m. in the wellness room at the Ruth Dare Health Clinic, with coffee served from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. November's meeting fell on Wednesday, November 4, so the next one is Wednesday, December 2.
Seguin Township lists the Memorial Hall programs and the coffee club as volunteer-led and community-run, so their schedules can change. It's best to confirm before driving in on a snowy evening.
Taken together, that means dinner four nights a week, a general store open every day, hall activities on two weeknights and coffee one morning a month. On Highway 141, HillTop's Monday-to-Saturday showroom hours stay the same all year, and only its July and August Sundays are seasonal. The village has more going on before the 22nd than it does afterward.
The following Saturday, the lights go south
A week after the Rosseau weekend, the holiday calendar moves to the other end of the lake. The Port Carling Lions Club has confirmed its 2026 Santa Claus Parade for Saturday, November 28, at 6:30 p.m. The club's parade page doesn't post a route or assembly point yet, so that's worth checking closer to the date.
From Rosseau village, the two Saturdays line up in order. On November 21 comes the gallery's last afternoon and the open house, with the Singers' concert in Port Carling if you make the drive. On November 28 comes the parade after dark. After that, the village's own calendar is mostly the Wednesday dancing, the Thursday stitching and the first-Wednesday coffee, which next meets on December 2.
For many cottage families, the late-November weekend is also the stretch when it makes sense to think about the property itself: what it needs before winter and what it might be worth come spring. If a confidential valuation or a preview of an exclusive listing on Lake Rosseau would help with that planning, The Blair Group is glad to meet at the north end whenever it suits you, even after the gallery has closed for the season.
